Cruising with Kids!
Published Thursday, April 29th 2010I'm often asked if cruises are kid-friendly. Are there kid-friendly actitivities? Are the meals kid-friendly? When my son was 10 years old, we went on a family vacation.....4-day land Walt Disney World (WDW), 3-day sea aboard the Disney Wonder. At the time, I was 3-months pregnant with all-day morning sickness and the flu, to boot! I loved the Disney experience on land...Epcot, Animal Kingdom...I was at the happiest place on Earth, after all, and my being pregnant and nauseous didn't affect my happiness one bit. My son, who loves amusement parks, was not the type of child to be first in line for Space Mountain. There was always a little hesitation with these attractions. But once we set sail on the Wonder, it was A Whole New World. I never saw my son! He was in kids club, playing basketball, on scavenger hunts, eating ice cream, watching first run Disney movies. Amazing! All the while, I made the headline news: Beached whale found on the Disney Wonder.
Contemporary cruise lines have figured out that if you keep kids happy and occupied, parents are sure to follow. Over the years, children's programs on ships have blossomed from one counselor on a ship for a holiday cruise to year-round programs and activites, within age-appropriate facitilities. There are so many choices for children ages 6 months - 17 years: Wii games, Guitar Hero, swimming, singing, dancing, plays, art...you name it, the cruise lines provide it.
Before you plan you next trip, call us so we can fill you in on the choices and affordability of family cruising. Oh, did I forget to mention that all meals, snacks, entertainment, and accommodations are included in one upfront price? This year take a cruise and leave the maps at home.
